How to deploy Windows Server 2012 on VMware Workstation 9.0

1) Open up VMware workstation (in this demo, I'll be using VMware workstation 9.0)

2) Go to File --> New Virtual Machine

3) Use the "Typical" Recommended configuration

4) The next step is the Guest Operating System Installation. In this Demo, I'll be using a local ISO for Windows server 2012 - choose Installer disc image file (iso): and point to the correct director:

5) On the next step, implement the following information for the "Easy Install"

Now remember, you can always activate your server later, you do not need to put in a Windows Product Key right away.

You can also configure your password for the administrator account after you have installed the Operating System.

Choose "Next"

6) Name your virtual machine and the location in which you would like the .vmdk files to exist.

7) Windows Server 2012 new recommendation size for the initial operating system is now 60GB. For Windows Server 2008 R2 the recommended size was 40GB. This has been a increase with the new Windows Server 2012 Operating System.

It's always good to keep your virtual disk files separated amongst multiple files.

Choose "Next"

8)The next screen will be presented with a summary of the virtual machine, or Guest OS information. You can also customize your hardware at this screen.

Choose "Finish."

9) Once the Virtual Machine has been created, Right click on the virtual Machine and choose to "Edit Settings"

10) Go to the Floppy device and change the device status from "connect at power on" to disabled.

11) Click "OK" and right click back on the Guest OS. Choose to Power --> Power On.

12) Windows Setup will now execute, and you will be prompted with the Language Region and Time. Make the correct configuration for your "zone" and choose "next"

13) Choose to "Install Now"

14) Next, you will be prompted to choose the Operating System you want to install. In this demo, we will be installing the Windows Server 2012 DataCenter Evaluation with GUI.

Choose "Next".

15) Accept the License Terms

16) Next, you'll be presented with a type of installation - either a new install or a in-place upgrade of a current Windows Operating System. Here, we'll choose "Custom: Install Windows only(advanced"

17) On the next screen, you'll be asked to allocate where do you want to install windows. In this demo, we'll be installing it on Drive 0 - the first hard-drive on our Guest OS that was created with 60GB.

Here, you can also choose advance drive options - which gives you the capability to add additional drives, extend, format, or delete.

Choose "Next"

18)Windows is now installing.

19) After Windows install has completed, a "settings" prompt will be presented. Implement the Administrator and Password Settings.

Choose "Finish" when completed.

20) Type in "Control + Alt + Insert" when settings have been configured. Log into Windows Server 2012

21) You have successfully completed Windows Server 2012 Datacenter install!! yay!! xoxo
